Karnataka Islamic Academy, of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, was founded in 1996. Growing from humble origins in Kumbra village, with only a mere six students enrolled, the college has developed into the successful and renowned academic institution which occupies a remarkable role in the realm of Islamic education today.

Karnataka Islamic Academy is an unique educational establishment, founded upon the philosophy of imparting Islamic education combined with a modern academic curriculum, to reflect both the old and the new facets of our Islamic culture. Students will develop Life Skills as well as academic qualifications in order for them to integrate successfully into a changing World, respecting ancient traditions yet embracing modern technology. Students thus benefit from sound moral guidance as well as contemporary education, all under the same roof. Monitored by KIC UAE National Committee, quality education is assured, all inclusive, with all meals and facilities free of charge.

Earlier, in 1996 the institution was run as a college for memorization of Quran named as Karnataka Islamic Center with its foundation stone laid by late Sayyid Muhammad Ali Shihab Thangal the late spiritual leader of Kerala. Later,in 2002 it was upgraded as an islamic shareath college named as Al Kousar Shareath college. From the same year onwards, the institution started functioning by giving admission to a group of 40 excellent students each year who would get admission through oral and written test .Al Kousar Shareath college has nurtured a considerable number of scholars titled as kousary who finished their graduation in Islamic theology and contemporary sciences from the institution and they are spread all over Karnataka in islamic educational and propagational fields.

In 2017, it was affiliated to Co-ordination of Islamic Colleges (CIC) and adopted the whole syllabi, method of teaching as well as the rules of functioning incorporated by the academic Council of CIC . This year institution started functioning by giving admission to a group of 35 excellent students.
